Elsecar Congregational ChurchThe building of this church at Stubbin Elsecar commenced in 1838 after much though and prayer by the congregation who were forced to travel to churches at West Melton and Mosbrough to worship. By 1839 the building was ready and the first minister seem to have been Rev Mark Docker from West Melton. The church performed baptisms, marriages and burials and has it own burial ground round the church. The baptisms that form the first part of this database start in 1871 and continue until 1880 with 2 entries from 1957. The marriage and burial entries will be added at a later date along with a index to a membership roll. The church is still in use as a place of worship, the building was rebuilt in 1881 Please e-mail archives@barnsley.gov.uk for more details.
