Welcome to the Home Page of the Barnsley Indexing Project. The project began in 2004 and it aims to digitise the indexes relating to the records of Births, Deaths and Marriages held by the Barnsley Registration Service since civil registration began in 1837 to date.
This page enables anyone who wishes to obtain a Birth, Marriage or Death certificate to locate the register details for the event and then print them out. A request for a certificate can then be presented to the Register Office in Barnsley. Upon payment of the appropriate fee, the certificate will be produced.
The project is a joint venture between Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and volunteers from the Barnsley Family History Society who are hard at work inputting the data.
It has been decided to begin the inputting of historical data with the indexes to the marriages. To ensure the indexes are as accurate is possible the data is being inputted from the completed Registers themselves.
