South Yorkshire Partnership Work Programme 

The Partnership has agreed to look at the following issues:- 

Future shape of the Health Service
The Health Service is undergoing fundamental change as a consequence of the NHS Plan and other developments. The Partnership intends to consider what implications this will have for how health services are organised and delivered in South Yorkshire.

The Learning Agenda
The Partnership is going to look at the actions required to achieve big improvements in Educational attainment, at both pre-16 and post-16 levels.This would incorporate the work of the new Learning and Skills Council, South Yorkshire.

Transport Infrastructure
Transforming the transport infrastructure in South Yorkshire is essential to its future regeneration.The Partnership will look at the current plans and assess the scale of investment required to deliver the changes needed.

Business Development
The low level of business start-ups, Research & Development, and ICT investment are key issues for the County. The Partnership will review the plans of the new South Yorkshire Small Business Service and the EC Priority 2 Driver Partnership to overcome these weaknesses.

Spatial Development
The work to date on the Objective 1 Programme has not sufficiently explored the complementary roles that the different parts of the county can play in its economic development This issue will be addressed by the Partnership.

Access to Employment
South Yorkshire has many excellent schemes to assist excluded groups in accessing the labour market. The Partnership will provide an opportunity to compare best practice and how to deliver this goal at a local level.

Neighbourhood Renewal
The Partnership will look at the response across the County to delivering the Government's Neighbourhood Renewal agenda.

Regional Policy
The Partnership will look at the emerging ideas on a new regional policy and their implications for South Yorkshire. This could include the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) and 'Advancing Together' documents.

Connexions
Connexions is a new service to provide advice, guidance and support to young people.It will be organised at a South Yorkshire level with Local Management Committees for Sheffield and the Coalfield areas. The Partnership wants to keep a watching brief on how it is getting on.

South Yorkshire Investment Fund
The Partnership is going to review progress in the delivery of the Funds' objectives.

Information Communication Technology (ICT)
The Partnership is going to look at the impact of technological change and how the Sub Region can take advantage of this.

Promotion
The Partnership is going to look at how best to promote the County and attract inward investors.

Retention of Skilled Workers
The Partnership is going to look at how we can keep skilled workers in the County, rather than lose them to other more prosperous regions.
